Moeaki Fotuaika, the Titans prop, has been given his marching orders as the second NRL player dismissed over the weekend due to a high tackle. The incident occurred during the Warriors and Gold Coast face off at Cbus Super Stadium on Friday evening, just 17 minutes into the game.
Fotuaika’s high tackle on Warriors fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad resulted in the player being removed from the pitch to be examined for potential head injuries. The Maroons prop’s action was described as “direct contact” and “forceful” by referee Ben Cummins, resulting in Fotuaika’s dismissal for the rest of the match.
Soon after, in a separate incident, Marata Niukore from the Warriors found himself sin-binned. His offense? Slapping Titans forward David Fifita in the third minute. This meant for a duration of 10 minutes during the first half, both teams were down to 12 players.
Nathan Brown of the Roosters – a well-known hot head – found himself being sent off on Thursday evening for a high shot on Ben Trbojevic from Manly. Brown’s send off seemed questionable as the contact appeared to be borderline, in notable contrast to Fotuaika’s outcry-inducing move.
