In an enthralling first-ever women’s National Rugby League (NRLW) match between two Queensland sides, Brisbane emerged victorious against their tough rivals, North Queensland. Standing tall as the centre, the immensely powerful Mele Hufanga trampled over the opposition, scoring an impressive four tries to secure a 40-12 victory for the Broncos. This marked their first encounter against the Cowboys.
In a testament to their superiority, Brisbane scored eight tries compared to North Queensland’s meagre two in what was a much-anticipated clash of the Sunshine State’s teams.
Brisbane set a challenging pace early in the game, already scoring three tries before their opponents could register their first point. Shellie Long scored for the Cowboys in the 21st minute, but by then, Brisbane’s lead, boosted by Hufanga’s two first-half tries, stood at 18-12.
Hufanga demonstrated her scoring prowess with two more tries shortly after the second half began. It was the icing on the cake on an incredible day for her. Brisbane’s domination was complete when Lauren Dam and Ali Brigginshaw scored the closing tries, solidifying their crushing victory over the Cowboys.
