The Bulldogs are set to make a move for a rising star from the Titans as they plan their bid to sign Broncos powerhouse Payne Haas. Haas, who is currently 23 years old, will be allowed to negotiate with other teams starting from November 1 this year for the 2025 season.
The Bulldogs are reportedly preparing a lucrative contract offer for Haas, with other teams also expressing their interest in recruiting him. However, the Bulldogs believe they may have an advantage due to Haas’ close friendship with former club great Sonny Bill Williams, as they share a religious connection through Islam.
Canterbury has reportedly secured the signature of Panthers player Stephen Crichton for next season and has cap space available for the following two seasons. In addition to Haas, the Bulldogs are keeping an eye on the situations of David Fifita and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, but they have already acquired the services of one of their club teammates.
Halfback Toby Sexton is said to have driven 10 hours to Sydney on Monday to meet with Bulldogs officials and is expected to join the team immediately. Coach Cameron Ciraldo has faced a halves crisis at the club, with a number of players filling in for the vacant position, but now he hopes Sexton can fill the void. Pending NRL clearance, Sexton could potentially make his debut for the Bulldogs in Round 19 against the Rabbitohs.
