Queensland coach Billy Slater has made some strategic selections for Game Three of the 2023 Ampol State of Origin series. Slater has called on a number of fresh faces in order to secure the first series clean sweep in 13 years for the Maroons.
One of the additions to the squad is Raiders prop Corey Horsburgh, who will be making his Origin debut. Horsburgh had been part of the extended squad earlier in the series and now has the opportunity to showcase his skills on the big stage. Another change in the lineup sees AJ Brimson taking over at fullback, replacing Reece Walsh who is unavailable due to suspension.
Horsburgh’s inclusion in the team means that Broncos prop Thomas Flegler will miss out on selection. Flegler is currently sidelined with a foot injury, leaving a vacancy in the prop position that Horsburgh will now fill.
Aside from these changes, the rest of the Maroons squad remains unchanged from their series-clinching victory in Brisbane. Cowboys playmaker Tom Dearden has been named as the 18th Man, providing depth and versatility to the team if needed. Additionally, Eels forward J’maine Hopgood joins the squad as the 19th Man, offering further options for the Maroons‘ game plan.
With these fresh faces and experienced players, Queensland aims to continue their dominant form and secure a historic clean sweep in the Ampol State of Origin series. The team is primed and ready to deliver another thrilling performance in what promises to be an intense and highly anticipated Game Three showdown.
