Former rugby sevens player Brooke Anderson has returned to professional sport after a five-year hiatus. Multiple injuries, including shoulder reconstructions, an ACL tear and an Achilles injury, prompted Anderson to retire from rugby at age 21. She subsequently pursued a high-paying full-time job. But Anderson still felt like something was missing from her life, prompting her to return to rugby league.
Anderson secured a contract with the second-tier Sharks, before signing with the Eels for the 2022 NRLW season, where she played hooker and reached the Grand Final. In 2023, Anderson returns to Cronulla for the club’s debut NRLW season.
Anderson’s head coach at the Sky Blues, Kylie Hilder, has awarded Anderson a spot on the NSW team for the 2022 State of Origin. Hilder praises Anderson’s skill and says she fits the mold for the position the team was looking for. For Anderson, making the Origin team has been a long-term goal. Anderson says she is excited to take the opportunity with both hands.
